Unfinished Business // for John

Kagura Ski Lodge has been on their mutual radar for quite a while now. Martin had first learned of it from Harry, that it had been the site of some dark dealings in the summer, shortly before their arrival. Its presence has also been noted in several records and even a few Statements John's gathered, all of these little references culminating to paint Kagura as of a sort of hotspot, as it were. From what they've been able to gather, it's ostensibly an ordinary ski lodge, July's events notwithstanding—but now that it's finally open for the season, they have every intention of putting that assumption to the test.
Martin finds that he's even a little excited about it. Sure, a lot of the rumors indicate parts of it to be haunted, but after his little ghost adventure with Eliot, that doesn't put him off quite as much as it might normally. There's a certain nostalgia in going to investigate something. It reminds him of the early days working for the Magnus Archives, before they really knew what they were working for, just him and Sasha and Tim digging into whatever odd little story John had recorded that week. Those shouldn't really be good memories—for quite a few reasons, really—but he clings to any positive feeling he can dredge up about any of it. Those times did feel simpler, and there's something nice about returning to his roots, this time alongside John instead of under his constantly disapproving scrutiny.
As they make their way up the steps to the building, Martin steals a glance at John, smiling rather fondly at him. Things have been really, really good between them lately, and if he's totally honest with himself, that's a larger part of his excitement now than any wayward nostalgia. Right now, John seems to be in a bit of a mood, but Martin has enough reason to know it isn't to do with him, which makes it almost charming. John's grumpiness has long been a part of his charm, as far as Martin's concerned.
"What's the matter?" he says after a moment, his tone lightly teasing. "You're not excited to see some ghosts?"
