She looks nervous, a bit wary, not coming any closer. He really can't blame her. The question is sweet, though, and his smile relaxes a little.

"Yeah," he says. "Yeah, erm... it wasn't anything serious." He's very cognizant of the other adult in the room with them, even though she's politely going back to her work and pretending to ignore them — he knows she's still paying attention. He has no intention of giving anything away. It isn't quite right to say the whole thing had been an accident — she'd meant to attack John, after all. But from where Martin's standing, these were the actions of a scared, desperate child who's probably been through more than he can imagine. She wouldn't have been able to do much real harm even without John's relative imperviousness. She doesn't need to be punished, and she doesn't need to be made to feel any guiltier than she clearly feels already.

So. "I'm fine now," he says firmly. "I... I hope it's okay I came by."
